Film and trailer poster analysis

POSTER KEY CONVENTIONS
The key conventions of this poster is the name of the director, main star of the film, the central image and the colour scheme of gold to suggest the film being about money. This appeals to the audience as the background of the poster shows a party which shows that the genre of the film is a drama based film. The central image of the poster is the main character in the film who is Leonardo DiCaprio.

TRAILER KEY CONVENTIONS
The key conventions of the trailer are the name of the main star and director being shown rather than a voice over of their names. There is a title and release date at the end of the trailer so the viewer knows when the film comes out. The main star is shown straight away so the viewers identify a famous actor and will then go watch the film.

I think the poster and the trailer are successful as they promote what the film is about but dont give too much away about it. The poster and the film shows the main star and the director to indicate that big hollywood stars are in the film.

The medium shot (MS) establishes the emotion of the police,it mainly used to show the emotions of the lead cop but also of the other cops. this is used to show that they will follow their leader and are confident this helps the audience to understand the position of the police.

The long shot (LS) is used to help establish the movement of the car and what is happening and nicely accompanies the dolly camera movement. the way most of the image is blurred makes it seem as if every thing is happening in a blur. the long shot also helps with the showing the background and expressing the shock in the policeman.

The Medium close up (MCU) helps to establish his emotion and helps the audience understand the situation. also it helps set a certain tone without the character even speaking. the use of tilt camera movement shows that he is mildly disorientated and makes the audience feel as if they are in his situation.

advert analysis

 Language;

The Genre for this specific advert is outdoor sports and contains a BMX rider called Mark Webb The sentence “flairs for breakfast” most people think it’s easy and he can do it however most people don’t know that he came out of injury and serious bad injury which was career threating. Also the ride BMX logo is there and can be seen and reconisgned.

Institution;

The company who produces this magazine is well known through the BMX and skateboard industry and formally known as Ride Bmx. Ride BMX was the first BMX advert to be well known and its status as a company remains and has increase the company’s name and wealth in the industry.

Audience
The audience for this advert is mainly male however a handful of women watch  ride bmx so it’s a mixture, I think about 90% of male  watch it and 10% of female watch it as it’s a male dominated sport. The media influence the consumer as the BMX rider is doing tricks so can capture young people’s mind to try and do tricks like the rider so kind of have a power over you.

Representation:

People who do tricks on BMX bikes are reconisgned not for their tricks but for the way they act trying to do tricks like in public spots and always getting kicked of, as in the advert you can see he is doing a trick on what looks like a grass ramp that’s on a front garden  in a public place furthermore the women behind him shows these ways of how bmx riders are judged and how they get threated as low life’s

camera shots

Big close up of lewis. Showing that he is angry about being bullied.
This shows us how lewis feels and shows he is angry this builds up tension.
Long shot of lewis and mr.Harvey
medium shot. To let the audience show how lewis gets bullied. this builds up sympathy and sadness with the audience.
Medium shot with a low angle which shows that lewis is powerful and big.
Medium close up of a character who thinks he is rich. This allows the audience to know that this character is arrogant.
Over the shoulder. This lets the audience know that lewis is not as good at basketball than omar also who is dominant.

2) The institution behind the programme – this is usually the TV channel it is broadcast on. Find out:
1) The channel was first launched on 14th September 1970 but at 9pm on the 16th October 2000 it was then changed to BBC News at 10
2) The founder of this programme is John Reith; however the person in charge (Director) - General Mark Thompson.

Any other information about the channel you can find:
The most common rental scams involve a rogue landlord renting out a property that isn’t theirs to rent. Some conmen may do this by breaking into an empty property and then holding viewings for multiple prospective tenants. They will take deposits from as many as possible and then disappear without trace.
Another variation of this targets people who are moving to the UK and won’t be able to view their rental property before moving in. Adverts will be placed online and again deposits will be taken via online banking or wire transfer. Victims of this scam will then arrive in the UK and suddenly find they have nowhere to live.
The simplest way to avoid these kinds of scams is to do some background research on the landlord or agent renting the property. Make sure you have their full address and contact details. If they’re from a company see if you can find some positive feedback about them online. Many estate agents are part of the Safe Agent Scheme which is designed to give tenants some peace of mind.
3) The target audience
I think BBC One at 10 is targeted mainly at adults and specific teens because it’s about what’s happening in the world such as war and political issues so it isn’t suitable for small children. 37% teens and 63% adults’ females and males 50% - 50%
4) The running order for three separate editions of the programme. Watch at least 20 minutes of the programme on THREE separate days and write down the following:
24/08/2014

The news story I chose was about a journalist that was brutally murdered for having a brother in the US military. I think that they started with the national stories first and then moved onto the stories around the world because people are usually more concerned about what’s happening in their own area/ country.
25/08/2014

The news story for the date stated above was about the meeting with the Scottish government about Scotland becoming a independent country and the debate went smoothly, Alex handled the questions really well however not everyone in Scotland agrees that Scotland should be an independent country because of the money and the resources.

27/08/2014

Today the first story was about how 100's of children were sexually abused in Rotherham and only the council leader had resigned. A victim said that the police and council haven't done anything to help she said that they let the guy go without charge. One child has been brutally murdered after being abused.

The second story is about how in Syria the boys over 14 are preparing to go to fight in war. The war seems to have changed into several different conflicts. The war began due to short and long term causes.

Genre
The genre for this media text is television commercial. The sub-genre would be motivational speech, Jordan clothing advertising.

Audience

The target audience for this Jordan advert would be a large, mass-market global audience. This would appeal mainly to basketball fans due to the famous player involved but there are other clues regarding a more detailed target audience. The 'unknown' players on court at the end give us an idea about the main target audience - younger males from a variety of ethnic and social class backgrounds. However, there are many aspects to the advert that would appeal to a wider audience of both males and females, as well as older people (for example, the motivation for training and the sports star from the past creates enjoyment for older fans).

Platform

Although this is primarily a TV commercial but would mainly be watched online, particularly YouTube. This is because of the motivational speech in the commercial people would want to replay/watch on demand so they can get motivated when the want to so it would mainly be watched on PCs, laptops, tablets and phones. With a younger target audience in mind, tablets and phones would perhaps be the main devices used to access the commercial
Genre : The genre of this clip is an action/romantic movie. We can conclude this due to there being action going on (obviously) and a bit of love (again its obvious)

Audience: The audience of this movie seem to be older teen-young adult females. This is because this type of romantic/action films often appeal to younger teens and the romantic side to it appeals to females. However due to the action side of the movie it may also appeal to a few older teen-young adult males too. Roughly about 70%

Platform: The platforms this can be watched on can vary a lot due to the advances in technology. Typically movies can be watched in the cinema and then later on TV. However this can also be seen on laptops, computer and tablets due to websites such as Netflix.
